A person who brought 35 kilos of gold has been arrested.

A person has been arrested by the Airport Customs with 35 kilos of gold worth Rs. 1.1 billion illegally.

The suspect reportedly brought the gold by hiding it in 09 devices that looked like car spare parts specially prepared for bringing it into the country, and also in his suitcase.

The suspect is a 32-year-old businessman from Grand Pass.

He had arrived at the Katunayake Airport from Dubai at 08.40 this morning (15) on Emirates flight EK-650.

He was said to have 195 gold biscuits and 13 kg of jewelry in his possession. Airport customs officials are conducting further investigations into this matter.
