With the initiation of investigations into 18 high-ranking government officials, including ministry secretaries, who have been accused of various corruption, fraud and irregularities, it is reported that several officials holding high positions have left the country.
Accordingly, five government officials accused of corruption are currently abroad, police sources say.
These investigations into government officials are being conducted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). These officials are accused of aiding and abetting politicians in committing corruption and irregularities.
It is reported that these officials have also benefited economically from the said corrupt practices and have purchased properties worth crores of rupees, including lands, vehicles and others. Investigation teams are currently conducting checks on the bank accounts of these officials.
It is reported that the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has also commenced an investigation into the assets of former Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Janaka Sri Chandragupta, who was arrested in connection with the importation of substandard medicine.
