With the aim of controlling the excessive profits earned by middlemen, the All Ceylon Egg Producers Association has announced a new initiative to publish egg prices daily on social media.
This step is being taken in response to the fact that many have accused the activities of middlemen of causing the increase in egg prices over the past few months.
An egg is currently sold in the market for between Rs. 28 and 32. However, in recent months, consumers have had to buy eggs at significantly higher prices, which has drawn widespread criticism.
The association believes that providing direct and transparent information about prices to the public can prevent price increases, to ensure fair prices for producers and consumers.
