The government has focused its attention on providing education through play instead of the currently sedentary education model used in preschools and on the play equipment that can be used for that purpose.
Accordingly, a national plan was prepared for this and a discussion was held next year on the possibility of teachers and parents adapting to it.
This discussion was held under the leadership of the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Saroja Savitri Paulraj, on how the use of play contributes to early childhood development, taking as a basis the ‘National Play Day’ which falls tomorrow (11) under the theme ‘Play Every Day’.
It is said that the views of scholars were also sought during this discussion, which was attended by the Deputy Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Namal Sudarshana, and the Secretary of the Ministry.
Special attention has also been paid to the support provided to children in developing their psychosocial skills and controlling their emotions by changing the educational model through play for early childhood development.
Early childhood specialist Wasantha Perera, who is implementing an experimental educational method called the ‘Walking School’, has explained the practical opportunities and play equipment of play-based education to the authorities.
