The Poson Full Moon Poya, which commemorates the establishment of the Sambuddha Sasana in this country, falls today (10).
It was on this Poya day that the group of munks led by Arahant Mahinda Thero arrived in this country and Buddhism was established in this country from there.
Arahant Mahinda Thero, who arrived at Mihintale Mountain in Anuradhapura, along with King Petthis II, who ruled Sri Lanka at that time, established the Panchasila and preached the Chullahaththi Padopama Sutta on this Poya day.
Buddhist history states that the Buddha, in the fourth week after his enlightenment, sat in the Ruwange and spread the Buddha’s robe for the first time on this Poya day.
The Third Council of the Buddha was also held on this Poya day.
