Court verdict in Johnston’s case

The Colombo High Court today (03) ordered that further hearing of the case filed by the Bribery Commission against former Minister Johnston Fernando and three other defendants be called on October 01.

Defendant Johnston Fernando has been charged with corruption under Section 70 of the Bribery Act, alleging that he caused a loss to the government by removing employees of the Sri Lanka Trade and Industry Association from their official duties and engaging them in his political activities during his tenure as the Minister of Trade.

At that time, the defendants, including former Minister Johnston Fernando, who are out on bail, appeared in court. The judge then ordered that further evidence be adjourned until October 01.

The case was called before Colombo High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuvida today (03).
