A police officer attached to the traffic division of the Marawila Police Station has reportedly died in a road accident in the Marawila area while on duty.
The officer was inspecting a three-wheeler with another officer when he was hit by a car. The car was being driven by a 22-year-old woman. She has been arrested in connection with the accident.
The deceased police officer is a 42-year-old resident of Kuliyapitiya. Marawila Police are conducting further investigations.
