Student who committed suicide was abused by a teacher

Riot control units have been called in to control a protest on Duplication Road in Colombo against the suicide of a schoolgirl who was abused by a teacher and the suspected teacher being released on bail and working at the same school.

Later, the Western Provincial Acting Director of Education, who arrived at the scene, addressed the parents who joined the protest and promised to ban the teacher from working there from tomorrow and take maximum disciplinary action against him, but the group called off the protest.

The Colombo Senior Superintendent of Police, who arrived at the scene, stated that the police report against the suspected teacher will be submitted within the next day and accordingly, the Acting Director of Education has confirmed that his service will be permanently banned from tomorrow.

The protesters say that the child committed suicide due to abuse by a teacher at the school. Posts shared on social media claim that the student has been subjected to psychological abuse by a private tutoring class owner, but that justice will not be served due to his political connections.
