Jude Shramantha granted presidential pardon has fled Singapore.

The Attorney General’s Department has informed the Supreme Court that Jude Shramantha Jayamaha, who was convicted in the Royal Park murder case and later granted presidential pardon, is no longer in Singapore.

This information was revealed yesterday (29) during the hearing of a fundamental rights petition filed for his release.

Senior State Counsel Sajith Bandara, appearing for the Attorney General, stated that although the Sri Lankan authorities had initially requested Singapore to extradite Jayamaha, the Singaporean authorities have now confirmed that he is not in their country.

He further said that a special investigation has been initiated to find Jayamaha’s current whereabouts.

A bench of Justices S. Thurairajah, Yasantha Kodagoda and Janak de Silva expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress in locating him despite the lapse of almost a year since the court order.

The petition will be reconsidered on July 28 and the Attorney General’s Department was ordered to report on the progress.
