Chandrika files complaint with Election Commission

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has filed a complaint with the National Election Commission regarding the illegal use of her name and photograph by the ‘Podhujana Eksath Peramuna’ for campaigning in the 2025 local government elections.

In a letter to the Election Commission, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has stated that she has been informed that the ‘Podhujana Eksath Peramuna’, which is contesting under the chair symbol in the areas under the Attanagalla Pradeshiya Sabha, has used posters and leaflets with her name and photograph.

The former President says that she has informed the ‘Podhujana Eksath Peramuna’ party not to use her name or photograph for election campaigning and that she has no connection with the party.

However, since the party continues to use her name and photograph for election campaigning, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga points out that this is a violation of election laws.

Therefore, the former President has requested the National Election Commission to take necessary steps in this regard and to inform the party to refrain from using her name and image for election campaigning.
