Chinese Commerce Minister to Visit Sri Lanka

Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao is expected to visit Sri Lanka in June, the Daily Mirror reports. The visit is said to be aimed at boosting trade relations between the two countries.

The report also states that Chinese officials in Sri Lanka have indicated that such a visit was discussed at a recent meeting held at the Ministry of Commerce.

The Chinese Commerce Minister is preparing for a visit to Sri Lanka in a context where Sri Lanka is looking to expand its export market. However, no plan or agenda for his visit has been announced yet.

China and Sri Lanka began negotiations on a free trade agreement about 10 years ago. However, it is still at the negotiation stage. This visit is special at a time when Sri Lanka’s economy is facing a severe crisis due to US tariffs.
