Sea vessels to be used for passenger transport

The government has focused its attention on starting a boat service covering several areas using existing waterways on the country’s coastline as well as inland, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

The Cabinet Spokesperson said this while expressing his views at the Cabinet Decisions Media Briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday (22).

Accordingly, it is expected to establish a marine water transport service on Puttalam-Fort, Fort-Galle, Galle-Matara, etc., and to provide the necessary infrastructure facilities for the same, the Minister further said.

He also stated that the tourism industry is expected to be promoted by providing inland water transport using water sources such as Hamilton Canal, Beira Lake, Diyawanna Oya, and Madu Ganga.
