The person who was arrested in the Mount Temple area of Gampola recently with 200 bottles of Goda and 25 bottles of kasippu is reported to be a candidate for the Gampola Municipal Council representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the upcoming local government election.
The raid was conducted based on a tip-off received by Gampola Divisional Senior Superintendent of Police Eric Perera while he was making kasippu for sale during the New Year in an abandoned house in the area.
Police sources say that the house where the kasippu was made belongs to a friend of the election candidate and that the kasippu was made for sale during the Sinhala New Year.
It has been revealed that the gas stove and gas cylinder used for making kasippu were obtained on a rental basis from a place that rents out items for festive occasions.
