The United Nations says it is calling for the world’s poorest and smallest countries to be exempted from the new tariffs imposed by the US President.
The organization has also issued a new report stating that if this is not done, the economies of these countries are at risk of being severely affected. The report names 28 of the world’s poorest and smallest countries that should be exempted from the US reciprocal tariff system, but Sri Lanka is not included in the list.
The United Nations says that considering the size and moderate export levels of the 28 countries that the US has imposed high tariffs on, the US economy is not threatened by these countries.
