During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka last week, India once again proposed a land link project with Sri Lanka, but the Sri Lankan government has not yet agreed to it, reports the Daily Mirror.
In 2002, the then Sri Lankan government had proposed building a land bridge between Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, India, and Talaimannar in Sri Lanka.
It was based on the ancient land link called Ram Sethu, or Adam’s Bridge.
According to the relevant plan, it was proposed to develop road and rail bridge connections.
Later, the two sides resumed discussions on the project and it was even included in the joint statement issued during the previous government.
