Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, Chairman of the Doctors’ Trade Union Alliance for Medical and Civil Rights, complained to the Criminal Investigation Department that in the recent period, permission has been granted to nearly thirty companies to import unregistered medicines on more than 300 occasions.
He stated in the complaint that this information has been revealed before the COPE Committee and through the Auditor General’s reports, and that a comprehensive investigation should be conducted into the officials of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation and the Medical Supply Unit who took action to accept these medicines.
He further pointed out that the doctors representing the government in Parliament and the COPE Committee are raising their voices against the former Health Minister today, but the relevant groups did not come together to raise their voices in his favor then.
