The Colombo Magistrate has ordered the Borella Police to arrest all the criminals responsible for the death of a child named Hamdi after a kidney surgery performed at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Borella.
Magistrate Harshana Kekulawela ordered the Police to arrest all the criminals responsible for the death of the child, regardless of their rank.
The Magistrate made this order to the Borella Police based on the medical reports and evidence presented in court so far on behalf of the aggrieved parents of the deceased child, as well as the facts disclosed before the court by the Borella Police.
Although the doctor stated that the child’s kidneys were abnormally positioned according to those reports, tests and scan reports have revealed that the two kidneys were anatomically in the correct places, as revealed during the post-mortem examinations.
Nine months after his birth, Hamdi Faslim developed urinary tract complications and was referred to a doctor at Lady Ridgeway Hospital. After conducting several scans, the doctors diagnosed the child’s left kidney as failing and recommended its removal.
On December 24, 2022, Dr. Naveen Wijekoon underwent kidney surgery on three-year-old Hamdi Faslim at Lady Ridgeway Hospital.
A DSMA test was performed three days after the surgery, followed by another CT scan two days later, during which the doctors revealed that both of Hamdi’s kidneys were missing.
However, the doctor stated that the child was suffering from a rare condition as the child’s kidneys were positioned abnormally.
