Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in the first week of next month, according to reports.
The visit comes in the backdrop of the Mannar power plant project being scrapped by Adani, a close friend of Modi. Adani had not responded to a request from the Energy Ministry on Thursday to confirm whether the project was indeed scrapped. The Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Sri Lanka was announced on Wednesday.
Less than 24 hours after the announcement, the Indian High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner in Sri Lanka arrived to meet former President Ranil Wickremesinghe at his political office in Flower road . The three of them were engaged in a secret discussion for about two hours.
The discussions reportedly focused on the continuation of the agreements signed between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Indian government in 2023, as well as the Trincomalee fuel pipeline.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi twice last week in New Delhi, India. The Indian Prime Minister reportedly expressed deep concern over the government’s actions to stop the Adani project.
