Singapore refuses to extradite Arjuna Mahendran to Sri Lanka.

The attempt to extradite former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who is accused of involvement in the Central Bank bond scandal, has failed once again.

Responding to the efforts made by the Attorney General’s Department, the Singaporean authorities have stated that according to the law of their country, a Singaporean citizen cannot be extradited to Sri Lanka.

Although a Sri Lankan by birth, Mr. Arjuna Mahendran, who later acquired Singaporean citizenship, held the post of Governor of the Central Bank during the Yahapalana government.

He is accused of causing a loss of ten billion rupees to the Sri Lankan government due to the bond scandal. The Attorney General’s Department has tried to extradite him to Sri Lanka before, but Singapore has rejected it.
