Sri Lanka’s first ship carrying vehicle orders leaves Japan

The first ship to arrive in Sri Lanka with vehicles left Japan on February 13th and the ship will arrive at the Hambantota Port soon, said Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers Association President Prasad Manage.

He said that there is no truth in the rumors that Japanese banks do not accept letters of credit from Sri Lankan banks when importing vehicles.

He said that there were some problems with vehicle imports due to the problems that arose during the previous government and because the letters of credit were canceled due to the intervention of the then government, but he said that those problems have now been resolved.

Accordingly, he stated that the problems related to accepting letters of credit have reached a point where they can be resolved between 80 and 90 percent.

However, Sri Lankan vehicle importers urge consumers not to pay anyone for vehicles under any circumstances and to inspect and purchase the vehicles after they arrive in Sri Lanka.
