The United Rice Producers Association says that it will take more than three weeks for the government to decide the guaranteed price for paddy. Its chairman Muditha Perera said that the banks have already been informed regarding the paddy price.
Accordingly, the banks have been informed that a kilo of wet nadu paddy is Rs. 95, a kilo of dry nadu paddy is Rs. 115 and a kilo of samba paddy is Rs. 120, he said.
However, it is reported that private sector mill owners are already buying paddy at a higher price than the fixed price.
