Former editor of the Ravaya newspaper, senior journalist Victor Ivan has passed away. A founding member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, he was the 7th defendant in the 1971 case.
He later left the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and became a national figure in journalism. He founded the Ravaya magazine, later converting it into a newspaper, and introduced a new kind of media tradition.
He played a major role in bringing Chandika Bandaranaike to power and later severely criticized her politics. Accordingly, he published the controversial “Queen of Thieves” and published many articles on the shortcomings of the judicial system in Sri Lanka.
After leaving the Ravaya newspaper, he worked as a full-time writer and wrote a number of books. He played a prominent role as a political commentator and is an unforgettable figure in Sri Lankan politics.
The body will be laid to rest at the Ruhunu Funaral palaour in Karapitiya , while the last rites will be performed at the Dadalla Public Cemetery tomorrow (20) at 5 pm.
