National People’s Power MP Lakmali Hemachandra said in Parliament that there has been a debate on whether the credit for the stability achieved in the Sri Lankan economy in 2024 should go to the previous government or the current government.
‘By mid-2024, it seems that there has been some stability in the Sri Lankan economy. Even when we took over the government, we were able to continue that stability. There has been a debate on whether the credit for this growth should go to the previous government or us. We should read the story behind this data. We should also think about the people who made sacrifices for it.
The other story of the increase in tax revenue is that the people lost money that they could have spent on education and health. The common people suffered a serious tragedy while paying taxes. The people who paid taxes to the country without even thinking twice should be given credit here.
“We can actually be happy with the data on the financial situation this mid-year,” she said.
