Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation yesterday. He said he would step down as soon as the ruling Liberal Party chooses a new leader.
Trudeau, who has been in power since 2015, was forced to resign as prime minister after a political crisis among the Liberal Party’s leaders.
He told the media that he had been unable to confront his political rivals due to internal fighting within the party.
Accordingly, he announced that Canada’s parliament will now be prorogued until March 24, which means that the parliament will be suspended for the next two and a half months.
