Air Lanka, the national airline of Sri Lanka, reported a loss of US$ 525 million for the year ended March 2022.
SriLankan Air, which had been run as a very successful profit-making business by Emirates, was taken over by President Mahinda Rajapaksa . Then his brother-in-law Nishantha Wickramasinghe was appointed as its chairman. SriLankan Airlines, which has been making losses since the first month after being taken over, is currently the most loss-making state-owned enterprise in Sri Lanka. Its current number of employees is more than 6000.
Currently, Sri Lanka Airlines is among the loss-making public institutions proposed to be restructured by the government.
