Free fertilizer for Kandy farmers

A portion of the 50,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer provided free of charge to the government by the World Food Organization is currently being distributed to the Kandy district, says Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatte.

He said that the process of releasing this fertilizer stock for the Kandy district is currently underway with the intervention of 45 Agrarian Development Centers in the Kandy district.

The District Secretary also said that the Kandy district will receive 550.2 metric tons of MOP fertilizer and that these fertilizer stocks will be provided free of charge to 24,000 farmers cultivating paddy on 11,791 hectares.

The District Secretary further stated that this fertilizer, which will be provided to the Agricultural Development Centers, will be provided to the farmers in the coming days in coordination with the relevant officials including the Agricultural Production and Development Officers.

He also said that in addition to the free fertilizer, a subsidy amount will be provided to the farmers to purchase fertilizer during the Maha season this year.
