The Ceylon Spa Owners Association says that due to the society’s tendency to treat massage parlors known as spas as brothels, their rights have been violated.
Prasanna Munasinghe, President of Sri Lanka Spa Owners’ Association, stated to the media that they have complained to the Human Rights Commission in this regard, and an investigation has already been started regarding their problem.
“In the past, our establishments were treated as brothels and our employees were treated as prostitutes due to substandard spas. This is because spas are coming out in numbers across the country. This has violated our rights and employee rights,” he said.
He mentions that this situation has arisen after the abolition in 2019 of the regulations requiring spas to be registered in a number of government agencies such as the Department of Health and the Department of Local Medicine.
