A fine of one lakh rupees for public servants who avoid duty

Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake says that all officers who receive appointment letters to report for election duty should report for the relevant election duty.

He said there that if the officials who received appointment letters for parliamentary election duties do not report, they can be fined 100,000 rupees.

He said that the related punishments will be given as mentioned in the Act related to election duties. He noted that the fact that postal votes had not been applied for and the application rejected was not a reason for exemption from electoral duties

He also says that after reporting to their regular place of work, the attendance certificate should be submitted to the head of the institution.

He said officials who do not report for election duty are considered to be those who refuse or fail to cooperate with the Election Commission as per the Constitution.
