The first application under the newly adopted Online Security Act has been submitted to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.
Accordingly this application filed by the former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL), Janaka Ratnayake, the court issued a conditional order restraining the respondents from communicating false information.
In terms of Sections 24 (1) and 24 (2) of the Online Security Act No. 09 of 2024, Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis issued this conditional order in favor of the petitioner Janaka Ratnayake and directed that the order be communicated to the respondents. As stated in section 24 (4) of the Act, the court ordered to notify Gayatri Bimba, Janaka Rajapaksa, Oshala Herath and others of this order through electronic means.
Janaka Ratnayake has stated in her application that the respondents have circulated or are attempting to circulate his personal information.
The petitioner further claims that he is a “targeted person” and that one or more of the several respondents named in the petition are harassing the petitioner by communicating false statements.
Advocate Kalinga Indatissa, Advocate Vishva De Livera Tennakone, Leelani Ganegama Neranjan Eriyagolla, Rashmini Indatissa, Navin Jayamanna and Nirod De Silva appeared for the petitioner.
