Rajiv Gandhi’s killers are coming to Sri Lanka

Three Sri Lankans who were ex-convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case returned to their motherland today after completing their sentences. The three ex-convicts in the case who returned to Sri Lanka included Murugan alias Sriharan, Jayakumar and Robert Payas.

Three Sri Lankans were among the seven convicts in the case acquitted by the Supreme Court in November 2022. After relese from the prison, they were lodged in a special camp in Tiruchirappalli. They arrived in Chennai last night and today they have come to Sri Lanka. The High Commission of Sri Lanka had earlier issued travel documents to them to go home.

On May 21, 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a suicide bomb attack by the banned LTTE near Sriperumbudur.
