All political parties in Sri Lanka should accept the IMF agreement

British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick emphasizes that all major parties, including the three main political parties in Sri Lanka, need to accept the agreement made with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, he says that the government reached an IMF deal and what is the future of that deal has become a debatable issue here.

“I am sure there will be candidates who will say that this deal is not necessary when an election is approaching in Sri Lanka. Or renegotiate or they will say they have another way, ” .

If I am a voter in Sri Lanka, if a politician tells me that the problem can be solved without the help of the International Monetary Fund, I will think very carefully about that statement,” he said.

The UK is a key member of the IMF as well as an early member of the Paris Club, which is coordinating Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring.
