The Sri Lanka-Afghanistan first one-day cricket match was held today (09) at the Pallekele International Stadium and the Sri Lankan team managed to win the match by 42 runs.
After winning the toss, the Afghanistan captain invited the Sri Lankan team to bat first.
Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka, who entered the field, managed to maintain a precious partnership of 182 runs for the first wicket, and Avishka Fernando was dismissed after scoring 88 runs for the first wicket.
Pathum Nissanka, who played a valuable batting role in today’s match, managed to score 210 runs by scoring a double century. Through this precious innings of his, he was able to renew the record books.
That is by renewing the record of the highest number of runs recorded by a player in a Sri Lankan one-day cricket match. Earlier, Sanath Jayasuriya claimed that record. It was by scoring 189 runs against India in 2000 at Sharjah. However, today Pathum Nissanka was able to surpass Sanath Jayasuriya’s record and it is also special that it was done in front of Sanath Jayasuriya.
At the end of 50 overs, the Sri Lankan team scored 381 runs losing only 3 wickets.
In bowling, Ahmad took 2 wickets and Mohammad Nabi took one wicket for Afghanistan.
Accordingly, the Sri Lankan bowlers managed to take the first 5 wickets of the Afghanistan team within 55 runs after entering the field to chase a target of 381 runs.
But after that, Mohammad Nabi, who joined with Asmatullah Omazai, was able to further ignite the hope of victory for Afghanistan.
Pramod Madushan was bowled out by Mohammad Nabi for 136 runs, breaking the tie which was a headache for the Sri Lankan bowlers.
Asmatullah scored 149 not out. Afghanistan scored 336 runs for the loss of six wickets at the end of 50 overs.
