50,000 fine for those who do not open tax accounts, will not be imposed now

Although obtaining a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is mandatory for all persons above the age of 18 years, those who do not absorbe to the system will be charged Rs. 50,000 . But State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that imposing a fine will not be implemented at this time.

Addressing a rally held in Ruwanwella area this morning, he said that the government had taken some decisions to increase the future of the country and the government revenue, but it was not the government’s aim to put pressure on the people.

The Minister said that although it is mandatory to open a tax file and get a number, it does not mean that all those people have to pay tax.
