The anticipatory bail application filed by former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, requesting that he be released on anticipatory bail before being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.
When the case was taken up on the 3rd, an Assistant Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed a written objection to the petition before the court. President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris, who appeared for the former minister, requested the court to grant a date to file a reply to that.
Accordingly, the Honorable Court, which considered the facts today, ordered that the case be taken up again on the 14th.
President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris appeared for former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara.
The former minister had recently been notified to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption at the time of his return to Sri Lanka from a trip abroad. Accordingly, the former minister has filed this pending bail application.
