The Parliamentary Standards Act will be brought soon to remove unfit people from Parliament

Minister of Justice Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said yesterday at the parliment that after the proposed Parliamentary Standards Bill is passed, people who are unfit to be members of Parliament can be removed.

The minister made this statement in view of the heated situation that arose in the House after the Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri raised an issue of privilege.

“We will present this bill in Parliament soon, but before that, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena is talking to party leaders about it. “The Prime Minister will consult with the party leaders regarding the draft bill and make the necessary amendments,” said the minister.

Also, the court has stated that the law that existed during the time of Lord Solebury and the provisions for expelling any member from the House are still in force. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa also said that there are obstructions in the parliament to the Chaminda Wijesiri MP and that there mau be a conspiracy abiut this

But the MP Chaminda Wijesity says that his own party members have failed to protect him and his MP privileges.
