The central bank governor has revealed the reason for closing banks for five days.

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe stated that an extended bank holiday was announced from June 29th to July 3rd in order to provide sufficient time for the domestic debt restructuring process in the country.

Furthermore, the Governor of the Central Bank assured that online banking transactions will not be impacted during this extended bank holiday, and no deposits in any bank in Sri Lanka will be harmed during the local debt restructuring process.

The Governor of the Central Bank made this announcement during a special statement this afternoon (25th).
