Owners of filling stations assigned to Chima, Australian and American companies meet the Energy Minister.

The Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera today held a special discussion with the owners and the first two groups of management of the petrol stations that are to be handed over to foreign companies to join Sri Lanka’s petroleum industry.

The Minister mentioned that 450 fuel stations have been classified into 3 groups of 150 each, and they are being given to new foreign fuel service operators. In this discussion, the petrol station owners and management were informed and many issues including allotment of their dealers to new suppliers, benefits of new suppliers were discussed.

China’s Sinopec, United Petroleum of Australia and United States of America’s RM Parks Shell plc companies are going to enter Sri Lanka’s fuel retail market in the next few months. It was reported at the time that they will be given a license valid for 20 years to import, store and distribute fuel in Sri Lanka and will also be given 150 CPC petrol stations under this scheme.
