An agreement has been reached to build a special power cable between India and Sri Lanka to enable the transmission of electricity between the two countries. It has been proposed to build this electric cable in the shallow sea near Jaffna.
It is also planned to build an underground fuel pipeline from India to bring fuel to the oil tank complex built in Trincomalee. It is estimated that these projects cost about 800 million dollars.
