The presidential election begins

Everything is ready for the 9th executive presidential election of Sri Lanka. The polling started today at 7 am and it is scheduled to end at 4 pm. Voting will be held in 13,421 polling stations across the country.

To verify your identity while declaring the election, National Identity Card, Valid Passport, Valid Driving Licence, Public Service Retirement Identity Card, Elderly Identity Card, Reverend/Clergy Identity Card, Information Confirmation Letter of National Identity Card, issued by the Election Commission for Disabled Citizens Any one of the 9 recognized documents, Temporary ID Card issued by the Election Commission to other persons, can be submitted. Carrying mobile phones to polling stations will be prohibited.

The counting of postal votes will begin after 4 pm and the first postal vote results will be released before midnight, election officials said.

There is a peaceful situation throughout the country. Yesterday afternoon, heavy traffic was created around many cities. It was possible to see how the people are working hard to buy essential necessities.
