The counting of votes for the local government elections will be carried out at the polling station itself, so the first result of the election is expected to be announced by 11.00 pm, says Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake.
Several steps will be followed for voting, and if there is only one polling station within a division, the counting of votes will definitely be carried out at that polling station.
He also stated that if there are several polling stations within a division, the counting of votes will be carried out at the polling station itself in some places.
The Election Commission Chairman, who said that a special officer has been appointed as the Divisional Returning Officer for these purposes, said that the Chief Election Officer has the full responsibility for the counting of votes.
He further stated that result preparation centers have been established in each of the local government institutions in the districts and that the total result of the local government will be prepared by collecting all the results there.
