Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne informed Parliament today (20) the Supreme Court’s decision on the “Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment)” Bill, which was challenged before the Supreme Court in terms of Article 121(1) of the Constitution.
After considering the facts presented, the Supreme Court has ruled that there is no basis for concluding that any provision of the Bill is inconsistent with any provision of the Constitution, the Speaker informed the House.
Accordingly, the petitioner has informed the court that he will withdraw the petition and accordingly, the Supreme Court has granted permission to withdraw the petition, concluded the further proceedings of the petition and dismissed it, the Speaker informed Parliament today.
