Students of Sabaragamuwa University remanded until 16th

Four students of the university who were arrested in connection with the death of a student at the university based on a novel incident have been remanded until May 16th.

The four students in question were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department last night (04) and produced before the Balangoda Magistrate’s Court today, after which this order was issued.

The police said that the four students who were arrested were residents of Maharagama, Embilipitiya, Wariyapola and Habaraduwa, who were studying in their third year at the Faculty of Technology of the university.

Charith Dilshan, a second year student of the Faculty of Technology Engineering of the university, died on April 29th.

Although he had written a handwritten letter stating that he was committing suicide due to depression, his relatives and friends alleged that he had committed suicide because he could not bear the scandal at the university.

The Samanalawewa Police recently recorded statements from 20 students who allegedly had a scandal with Charith.
