Speaker cuts his food expenses by half

All expenses, including food and drinks, at the Speaker’s official residence, located near the Parliament in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, have been cut by about half.

Accordingly, the amount of about three hundred thousand rupees spent on food and drinks at the Speaker’s official residence in the past has been reduced by about half.

The Speaker has been instructed to use water from the reservoir instead of using piped water for the maintenance of the grass and trees planted in the garden of the official residence and to operate water motors using solar power.

Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne has not moved into the Speaker’s residence, but uses the place only for meetings with essential diplomatic and foreign officials on weekends when Parliament is closed.
