Red containers that should be strictly inspected were simply sent out

The Customs Officers’ Association says that 323 containers, including a large number of containers with red labels that must be inspected, have been released from the port without any inspection.

The president of the association, Amila Sanjaya, points out that the vast majority of the 323 containers released without inspection are containers that should be strictly inspected under the red label.

He emphasizes that only eighty percent of the containers released without inspection are those that should be strictly inspected.

He said that no one has the authority to release such containers and added that these containers may contain weapons, drugs, low-quality medicines and any illegal substances.

He says that the customs officers working in the yards do not accept responsibility for these matters and that these actions have taken place with the knowledge of the Director of Customs. It is reported that he has resigned from his duties today in protest.
