Order to seek Attorney General’s advice regarding Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the police to immediately seek Attorney General’s advice and take action regarding Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, who is under investigation for placing a wreath in front of the house of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

The order was given when the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali, where the Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the court that they had discussed the future course of action in the investigation with the Attorney General.

However, Attorney Mervin Silva, who appeared for Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, has argued that such advice is not necessary. He has also said that the police can decide on action after examining the video footage related to the incident.

Following these submissions, the Magistrate has instructed the police to submit the relevant footage to the Attorney General’s Department and obtain further orders without delay.

The case is scheduled to be heard again on March 24th.
