Ministers have not ordered the release of containers

Cabinet Media Spokesperson, Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that there is no mention anywhere that ministers have given orders regarding the release of containers.

The Minister stated this while responding to questions posed by journalists at the Cabinet Decisions Media Briefing held at the Government Information Department (02).

The Minister said that containers with the red label at Customs should be subjected to physical and scan inspection, and that at the end of every year, there is a container congestion at Customs, and at that time, decisions regarding the release of containers are made based on the recommendations of a committee appointed by the Director General of Customs.

He also said that the investigation report appointed by the President confirms that this committee has released nearly a thousand containers on 14 previous occasions. The Minister also said that further action will be taken after studying the committee’s report.
