The Indian Oil Company, which currently operates 225 fuel filling stations in Sri Lanka, hopes to increase that number further in the future. Accordingly, it is reported that the company hopes to build an ocean pipeline to bring fuel from India to Sri Lanka.
It is said that the preliminary feasibility study has been completed and it has been confirmed that the new method is more profitable than bringing fuel by ships. It is also reported that the discussions between the officials of the two countries have already started regarding the construction of the pipeline.
This pipeline is to be used for the refinery proposed to be built by India in Trincomalee in the future.
