A new multi-purpose port that can challenge not only Colombo but also Dubai Port has been opened in the Indian state of Kerala. Indian media reported that this international port called Vizianjam was opened by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gautam Adani.
This will go down in history as the country’s first transshipment hub.
India has created this port to capture a significant portion of the goods currently handled through the Colombo Port, which has long been the most popular transshipment hub in South Asia.
Developed under a public-private partnership, this Vizianjam Port is said to reduce India’s dependence on foreign ports for container handling.
