The two sons of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have made a public appeal to US President Donald Trump and influential figures around the world to intervene and support their father’s release.
Imran’s sons, Qasim Khan and Suleiman Khan, are British citizens and have until now largely remained out of the world’s spotlight.
Speaking for the first time, they said they had decided to break their silence because they were exhausted by all legal and diplomatic means.
“We have never spoken before, but we cannot remain silent after seeing what he is going through,” Qasim added.
Their interview with citizen journalist Mario Naufal was widely circulated on social media. They claim that Imran Khan is being held in complete isolation in a cell similar to that used to hold death row inmates.
“He has no access to the outside world, no access to doctors, and has been kept in solitary confinement for a long time,” said the eldest son, Suleiman.
In the interview, Qasim and Suleiman have appealed to US President Donald Trump and other high-ranking figures around the world to help secure their father’s release.
“We would like to talk to Trump or find a way to help him in some way. Because at the end of the day, we are only trying to free our father, bring democracy to Pakistan and ensure his basic human rights,” Qasim said.
Suleiman also urged influential figures around the world to raise their voices for his father’s release.
