The International Monetary Fund has stated that there is no obstacle to providing relief to the people through the budget for 2025, which is scheduled to be presented to Parliament today. However, they also emphasize that all such relief should be provided within the parameters of the program agreed upon by their Fund and the Sri Lankan government.
They have also pointed out that if the government incurs any expenditure such as subsidies, salary increases, etc., it should generate that money for state revenue.
The International Monetary Fund is closely monitoring whether the budget is presented within those parameters. After that, it is scheduled to be submitted to the Executive Board for approval to release the next installment of the IMF loan.
IMF representatives also said this at a recent press conference held in the United States and the Colombo office has also communicated this to the Central Bank.
